TUESDAY 01/06
During the night the fog came down and by morning visibility was poor. I drove off the road to Tregaron to make a detour to a large lake. On arrival, it was better than I had hoped. The air had cleared and the water was perfectly still, giving rise to this incredible reflection of the sky. Having faffed about for a while, I realised I had just 4 hours to get to the boat! All you Colin fans will know what happened next…

I made it to the port on time and the crossing was very calm but completely obscured by fog after leaving Holyhead. I arrived in Dublin and proceeded to a: look for a place to stay and b: get quite lost in the town which is badly signposted. According to the book I bought on the ship, this is the best signposted area of Ireland and elsewhere you may as well not have a map as you will have to navigate either by GPS or telepathy.

One major problem is that the Carphone Warehouse people have cocked things up big-time. After having checked with them that the phone would work in Ireland, the smart card in the phone does not recognise the Irish networks and just says 'card error - call your supplier'. I will be passing close to Northern Ireland tomorrow on my way to Donegal so you may or may not get this instalment, depending on if I get within range of a UK Vodafone transmitter before I head south down the west coast and back into radio silence…
