MONDAY 31/05 21:00h
Having fed and slept, I left the Old Police Station and made my way into Wales, going via Shrewsbury to Welshpool where there was a parade going on through the main street to a big fair or something. I couldn't figure out what they were collecting for but gave them 50p for entertainment value…

After that, I carried on out of town and stopped for quite a while at Powis Castle. The National Trust has a lot of work to do here as whilst the building is still in good shape, a lot of the paintings inside need restoring, having faded to black over the years where varnish was applied to 'protect' them but the varnish now hides all but the brightest details in the images.

Continuing along the A483 to Newtown, the Welsh hillsides begin to rise up. Unfortunately the clouds also came back and made for poor photography. Tracking south a bit the road became much more twisted down to Builth Wells. Following the road now westwards until a little 'Nowheresville' called Beaulah, I struck out on to my target for the day, a long single track road that stretches directly across the Cambrian Mountains to Tregaron. I found a little spot to park overlooking a long valley and set up 'camp' for the night. Here's a bit just before where I stopped.

Captain's Log: Additional - I stopped at one of those caravan shows you get out here (Don't ask why - I just did - ok?). Any how, it was pretty amazing. They were selling the big semi-fixed kind that Jim out of the Rockford Files used to live in and surprisingly, for about 10k you could get something that wasn't half bad. You could actually live in one of these things - like a house but cheap and disposable. Décor getting a bit old and tatty? Just set fire to your old one and buy another!

Tune in tomorrow dear friends to find out if I remember to go to Holyhead to catch the boat!

Once again the Vodafone signal gave out so this transmission is late… Probably from Tregaron.
